I went to Falafel Brothers for the first time in a while!

That said, it was my first time visiting their restaurant in Harajuku!

Falafel Brothers is a chain with four locations in Tokyo, including Harajuku.

Falafel Brothers Harajuku opened just one year ago in April 2024.

Here, I would like to introduce the falafel and vegan sweets I actually ate at the restaurant.

Access

Falafel Brothers Harajuku

JR Harajuku Station or Meiji-jingumae Station on the Tokyo Metro Chiyoda Line are the nearest stations.

Here are directions from Harajuku Station.

The east exit of Harajuku Station is the closest exit.

Exit the east exit and cross the main street in front of you to reach Meiji-jingumae Station.

Continue straight along the main street (Omotesando) until you reach an intersection.

Cross the intersection to the right, and you will see the HARAKADO building in front of you.

The Falafel Brothers is located on the 6th floor of HARAKADO.

After having tea with a friend at Starbucks in the basement of Meiji Jingumae Station, I realized that I was quite hungry.

I had planned to have a quick tea and then eat dinner at home, but before I knew it, it was already past 10 p.m.

I wanted to eat something nearby, but I wondered if there was a vegan or vegetarian restaurant still open this late at night.

Then I remembered Falafel Brothers Harajuku.

I had discovered it by chance while looking around HARAKADO, a commercial facility that opened last year.

But since it was already past 10 PM, I thought it might be closed, but it turns out they are open until 11 PM.

Great, I decided to have dinner here.

By the way, it’s about a 5-minute walk from the east exit of Harajuku Station, and about 300-400 meters from the station.

Inside

Falafel Brothers Harajuku

After arriving at HARAKADO, I went up to the 6th floor restaurant floor.

And there it was, Falafel Brothers.

There are counter seats across the hallway in front of the restaurant.

There were 6 seats.

Perhaps because it was past 10 p.m., there were hardly any customers on the sixth floor.

Menu of Falafel Brothers Harajuku

Menu of Falafel Brothers Harajuku

There were menus on the signboard at the front of the store and on the counter table.

The main menu included the following dishes.

  • Full Sandwich
  • Half Sandwich
  • Rapper Falafel
  • Rapper Karage
  • Hot Dog Keba-Bro
  • Vega-Niku Burger
  • Hummus Plate
  • Falafel Pate
  • Salad Bowl

If you’re looking for the standard menu items, I’d recommend Full Sandwich or Half Sandwich.

Last time I visited Falafel Brothers in another location in Tokyo, I tried Half Sandwich, and even that half-sized sandwich was quite filling.

I didn’t know they also had hot dogs and hamburgers.

They might be new menu items, but both are made without real meat, of course.

Rapper Falafel and Rapper Karaage also sound interesting.

Rapper Falafel is falafel wrapped in a tortilla like a wrap.
It seems to have a slightly spicy flavor.

Wrapper Karaage uses vegan fried chicken instead of falafel.

Hummus Plate and Falafel Plate also look good.

I’m interested in everything, but since I wanted to enjoy the slightly spicy flavor, I decided to order Wrapper Falafel.

Other side dishes available include the following menu items.

  • French Fries
  • Mesh Fries
  • Lotus Fries
  • Koro-Koro Banzo
  • Samosa
  • Gyoza
  • Veggie-Cheese Pizza
  • Karaage
  • Falafel Snack
  • Crispy Chiki Fingers

They even have vegan gyoza and pizza!

I’m tempted, but I’ll probably be full from Rapper Falafel, so I’ll pass this time.

That said, I saw some vegan dessert samples at the store and now I want some, so I’ll order one as there is always room for dessert.

Vegan Sweets of Falafel Brothers Harajuku

They had the following vegan desserts.

  • Choco Coconuts
  • Apple Pie
  • Pecan Pie
  • Cheese Cake with Berry Sauce
  • Brownie with Whip
  • Cookies
  • Slice Cream

I’m also having trouble deciding what to order.

“What desserts are popular?”

I ask the staff.

“Apple Pie and Pecan Pie are popular”
he told me.

Apple Pie is available everywhere, but Pecan Pie is a bit rare here in Japan, so I’ll go with that!

Order Vegan Falafel and Vegan Sweets

This time, I ordered Rapper Falafel and Pecan Pie.

When you place your order, you are given a pager, and when your food is ready, it beeps, so you go and pick it up.

It looks like a food court.

I thought it would beep in a few minutes since I was the only customer, but it beeped about 10 minutes later.

Rapper Falafel

It arrived about 10 minutes after ordering.
Here is the wrapper falafel!

The price is about $7 (1000 yen).

Is that ketchup and mayonnaise on top?

It feels a bit heavy when you hold it in your hand.

When I eat it, I find the taste on top is different from mayonnaise.
Ah, this taste is tahini sauce, I realize.
It’s a sauce made with tahini, which is a paste made from white sesame seeds.

The falafel inside is crispy and well-fried, and pairs nicely with the tahini sauce.

I thought there were only 2-3 pieces of falafel, but there were actually about 5 pieces in total, which was quite filling.

At first, I didn’t find the chili or jalapeño too spicy, but by the time I finished, the spiciness was just right, making it delicious.

This dish was satisfying in both flavor and portion size.

Pecan Pie

Pecan Pie of Falafel Brothers Harajuku

Here is Pecan Pie.

Pecan pie is a baked dessert from the southern United States made with pecan nuts.

The price was about $4 (580 yen).

The tart is topped with pecan nuts.

By the way, I didn’t know this either, but pecan nuts are the nuts of the hickory tree, which is native to North America.

Let’s try it right away.

Yes, it’s very sweet!

It’s been a while since I’ve had such a straightforward sweet treat!

This straight-up sweetness is something I rarely find in Japan, so it feels like I’ve traveled abroad.

To be honest, I preferred it to be about half as sweet.

However, upon researching, I found out that pecan pie is a traditional baked confectionary known for its strong sweetness.

The pecan nuts themselves had a crunchy texture and flavor similar to walnuts, which was delicious.

This is a sweet treat I would recommend when your body is craving something sweet.
It would go well with black coffee.

Night View Outside is Recommended

You can also go directly outside from the restaurant floors on the 6th and 7th floors.

From outside, you can look down on the streets of Harajuku.

From the edge, you can also see Tokyo Tower in the distance.

Even late at night, there were quite a few people here.

There are also some chairs and tables available, so if you have time, it might be nice to take a break outside.

Summary

There are several other cafe or restaurants where you can enjoy vegan and vegetarian foods nearby Harajuku Station, but I think Falafel Brothers is the only place open after 10:00 p.m.

If you’re hungry late at night, Falafel Brothers is highly recommended.

I visit Harajuku occasionally, so I would like to try another dish next time.
